Downtown Drive-Through Mail Boxes To Be Moved June 11

By Shannon McFarlin WENK/WTPR News Director

Paris, Tenn.—In a matter of weeks, the drive-through mail boxes adjacent to the downtown Paris fountain will no longer be located there.

A notice has been placed on the mail boxes informing the public that they will be moved effective June 11. The mail boxes will be moved across the street to the post office and will no longer be drive-through mail boxes.

A spokesperson at the Paris Post Office told WENK/WTPR this morning that the mail boxes will be moved due to safety issues. He said the previous postmistress had requested the change and when the new postmaster arrived, he tried to change the request, but the wheels were already in motion.

The local post office had become concerned with the safety of postal workers who were crossing Market Street to collect the mail at the boxes in the late afternoon, he said. “A couple of our workers almost got hit by people making right hand turns,” he said.

The mail boxes will be moved across the street to the post office. He said one will be placed at the Market St. entrance and the other will be placed at the Wood Street entrance and neither will be drive-through.
