Paris, Tenn.—The Paris-Henry County Heritage Center is seeking history-loving students for its first Summer History Camp which will be held June 4-8. The camp will encompass a multitude of activities and experiences and is free to students in grades 4-8.

The event is being organized by Suzanne Richter and was the idea of Lucy Presson. Both are members of the Heritage Center board.

Students will experience a colourful and hands-on experience with the history of downtown Paris. The camp is from 9 a.m. to noon each day and students will meet each morning at the Heritage Center on N. Poplar Street. McDonald’s will provide a morning snack.

The camp will be divided into daily activities:

On Monday, the students will tour the Henry County Courthouse, with County Historian David Webb as their guide.

On Tuesday, students will take a tour of downtown Paris and hear the history of the town square from Ray Harding.

On Wednesday, the downtown churches will be toured, with Suzanne Richter as the guide.

On Thursday, the Paris City Cemetery will be toured and students will help clean tombstones and hear stories about the prominent people buried at the cemetery from numerous local people who participated in last year’s public cemetery tour.

On Friday, students will be at the Heritage Center (Cavitt Place) all day and take a tour of the old Barton mansion and take a walking tour of N. Poplar Street.
