Paris, Tenn.–The Henry County Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of several “scam” phone calls being made involving the Sheriff’s Office. The caller states that they are with the Sheriff’s Office and tell whomever they call that there is an active warrant for their arrest, but if they will go buy a pre-paid card and send it to them in lieu of making a bond they won’t be arrested.
According to Captain Adam Jenkins, “One of the callers even impersonated Sheriff Monte Belew.”
Jenkins said, “This is a SCAM! The Sheriff’s Office will never call someone who has an active arrest warrant and request money. If you have an arrest warrant we will come to your house. DO NOT under any circumstances send anyone money if you are called. We are actively investigating the origin of this scam.”
