Huntingdon, Tenn.–Last week the Huntingdon Public Safety Department was able to help safely dispose of 79 pounds of dangerous drugs. Jerry Morris of the Dangerous Drug Task Force stopped by and picked up three containers which held the drugs. Director of Public Safety Walter Smothers said, “These drugs will be incinerated safely thereby avoiding any dangerous contact by persons handling them and also avoiding contamination of our groundwater and a buildup of antibiotic resistant germs in ouf environment” A drug take back box is situated in the lobby of the Huntingdon Public Safety Building located at 12740 Lexington Street in Huntingdon. Any prescription or over the counter drugs may be dropped off at any time around the clock. Items not accepted are needles, blood sugar equipment, or bio hazardous waste materials. By dropping off any unused drugs you can help keep dangerous drugs from potentially being taken by children or being stolen and ending up being sold on the street. “We welcome everyone to take advantage of this free service,” Smother said.
