Martin, Tenn.—An elderly driver lost control of her vehicle and struck a store front, knocked down an ornamental lamp post and destroyed a brick column—at three different locations—in downtown Martin Wednesday afternoon.
Assistant Martin Police Chief Phillip Fuqua said officers responded to the area of 207 Lindell St. around 4 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered that Billie S. Walker, age 90 of Martin, had struck several objects in that area.
Ms. Walker lost control of her 2007 maroon Dodge Caliber and had initially struck the store front area of Southern Ink tattoo shop located at 221 S. Lindell St. The vehicle then headed back toward Lindell St. and knocked down an ornamental lamp post, shot across the parking area in front of WK & T (207 S. Lindell), destroyed a brick column and then came to rest back on the sidewalk.
The lamp post did strike another unattended vehicle that was parked on the west side of the street.
Walker was transported to a medical facility by personal vehicle for minor injuries. No one else was injured during the crash.
