Paris, Tenn.—Commercial and non-commercial fishermen crowded into the meeting room at the Paris-Henry County Chamber of Commerce today for a meeting on the growing Asian Carp problem on Kentucky Lake.
The session was hosted by the TWRA and two TWRA Commissioners were on hand: Connie King of Clarksville and Bill Cox of Memphis. State Rep. Tim Wirgau, R-Paris, presented information on the problem.
Also present were Henry County Mayor Brent Greer Paris Mayor Carlton Gerrell and a Kentucky Lake Asian Carp processor.
TWRA is implementing a new program that will supplement the price paid per pound to commercial fishermen who catch the invasive Asian Carp. The program also will provide assistance to people wanting to fish for Asian Carp with nets.
TWRA officials said the program is still a few months away from implementation. They are waiting to see how many commercial fishermen and fish markets will sign up for the program as it requires documents to be signed by all parties involved.
