Camden, Tenn.—The fire at the Magpro facility in Camden is now contained as of 6:30 p.m. tonight after the Camden and Morris Chapel Fire Departments extinguished the blaze which began Friday afternoon.

A dispatcher at the Camden Police Department said fire crews from the Magpro company are still standing by at the facility.

Magpro was founded in 2003 and is one of the world’s largest magnesium recyclers.

The dispatcher said fires at the facility are common. “There’s something in all that magnesium that starts on fire—this happens about twice a year. The fire crews move all the materials away and the fire dies down.”

He said nothing was destroyed at the facility.

The smoke at the facility was heavy and could be seen as far away as Huntingdon.
