Oakland, Tenn.—Eagle Scout Justin Bond has constructed flag disposal bins that have been distributed throughout Paris and Oakland as his community service project.

Oakland Volunteer Fire Department Chief James Martin said he was contacted by Bond with the suggestion that one of the bins be stationed at the fire department. “We welcomed this idea with open arms,” Martin said.

The Oakland Department conducted a ceremony Tuesday afternoon, with all of its fire department veterans on hand to help decide the perfect location, including Navy Veteran Charles Brown and Marine Veteran Charles Asher.

“We were even able to provide the first flag in need of disposal,” Martin said.

Martin said, “We want to thank Eagle Scout Justin Bond for donation this and thank him for helping to improve the community. I’ve also been contacted by members of the community praising the idea, saying they ‘no longer have to drive so far to dispose of their flags.’”

Bond is a member of Troop 28. Other flag disposal bins that he has made are at Paris Fire House No. 2 on Tyson Ave., Paris and the AMVETS Post 45 on Hwy. 79 N.
