Paris, Tenn.—If you dropped in at the Henry County Clerk’s office today, you noticed they’re dressed differently than usual. The ladies at the office are dressed in blue and green superhero costumes to bring attention to “National Donate Life Blue & Green Day” which is a way to spotlight the importance of organ donations.
The Tennessee County Clerks Organ Donor Awareness Foundation was launched in 1996 to support organ donor education in the state. County Clerks play a role in promoting the gift of life message by offering residents the opportunity to donate a dollar when they renew their car tag every year. Those dollars are used for the creation and distribution of educational materials for the public and school-based programs.
Clerk Donna Craig said she and her staff are participating in a statewide contest sponsored by the state clerks’ association. Winners are chosen based on the Donate Life Tennessee message, creativity and overall fun, she said. “Our theme is HEROES for LIFE, we have the POWER to help”.
Customers are asked to donate $1 to Organ Donor Awareness. If the customer donates, they are given a pack of Life Savers or a pack of Extra gum. Craig said the Life Savers have a message which says, “Thank you for saving a life’ and the Extra gum has a message that says, “Thank you for giving a little extra.”
Craig said the promotion will be on all month at the Henry County Clerk’s office.
