Paris, Tenn.—The Salvation Army Thrift Store in Paris is open today—the first day it has been able to open since a fire destroyed its storage building last week.
A spokesperson at the store told WENK/WTPR that the Salvation Army is again accepting donations from the public. “This has been a real ordeal, but we finally were able to get everything ready to open up again.” The store is located at 3830 Hwy. 79N.
They will be needing a storage building of some sort soon, she said, “but we can make do for a little bit. We do have some space for storing donations in the store, but that’s not going to last long. We’ll need to have something, even a temporary building, pretty soon.”
The fire destroyed the storage building that was located behind the store and all of the inventory that was stored in it. The fire also destroyed a forklift and a company vehicle. “We’ll be needing a truck again soon, too,” she said. “We have to wait for the insurance to get done.”
There was damage to the back of the store, also, where the fire jumped from the storage building. Paris Firefighters used hoses to water down the back of the store while the fire was ongoing.
The Salvation Army is accepting donations just as before, she said. “You can leave the donations in the carport next to the store up until a half hour before we close. We need that half hour to get the paperwork done on each donation and bring things in to store them.”
The hours are the same as before: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on week days and 10-2 p.m. Saturday, she said.
The Salvation Army also is looking for a licensed and insured building contractor to repair the fire damage to the building. Quotes are taken at the store Monday through Friday.
