Huntingdon, Tenn.—Volunteers at the First Presbyterian Church in Huntingdon have been busy creating a community kitchen. The Shepherd’s Table will serve its first meal beginning at 5:30pm, Tuesday, April 17th, in their Fellowship Hall, located at 19835 E. Main Street.
Everyone in need of a hot meal or those that are alone and want share a meal are invited.
Kitchen service will close at 6:45 pm. Those attending are asked to enter the building in the front door on E. Main Street, signs will direct you to the dining area.
The first meal will consist of delicious homemade spaghetti with meat sauce, a tossed salad with dressing, a variety of desserts and a drink. All meals are sit down occasions with servers bringing your food to the table, restaurant style, for an enjoyable dining experience. There is never a charge for a meal at The Shepherd’s Table.
The members of the First Presbyterian Church of Huntingdon and volunteers from the community have been meeting for several months planning the first supper. Rev. Arthur Lodge of Paris, who is pastor of the church, said everyone simply saw there was a need and they all wanted to do something about it.
Through hours of planning and with help from the volunteers of the Patriot’s Kitchen in Paris, The Shepherd’s Table is now a reality.
Mary Lodge, Arthur’s wife and one of the volunteers, has said that she hopes this idea catches fire and that The Shepherd’s Table is able to serve supper at least once a month indefinitely. Volunteer John Wambles says, “This is a task that can only happen with the support and donations from the community.”
