Paris, Tenn.—There are always a lot of smiling faces at the annual Henry County Helping Hand Radio Auction meeting.
A total of $306,821 was handed out to 87 worthy non-profit organizations at the annual session Monday night, which everyone agreed was a testament to the local community. With the Helping Hand auction, the monies are raised one chocolate pie and one coconut cake at a time and this year, that amounted to over 10,000 individual items that were donated to the auction.
Plaques were handed out this year’s top ten money-raisers and they were: First United Methodist Church which raised $32,304; First Baptist Church, $28,019; Tennessee Valley Community Church, $20,013; Pleasant Hill community, $15,950; Cottage Grove community at $14,249; Henry Co. Educators, $14,225; Security Bank and Trust, $10,865; Henry Co. Medical Center at $7,584; Holy Cross Catholic Church at $5,902; and Whitlock community which raised $5,449.
Helping Hand Treasurer Susan Bell noted that those ten organizations raised over $154,000, which was over half of the grand total raised this year.
Checks were handed out to the 87 organizations which fit into the following categories: Health and Well Being, Youth, Education, Senior Citizens, Community Improvement, Emergency Funds, Safety, and Fire Departments.
