Paris, Tenn.—Several people were on hand for the second of two public input sessions for the city of Paris’ proposed water recreation area at Eiffel Tower Park. The session was held at the Paris-Henry Co. Chamber office Thursday afternoon, immediately before the city commission meeting.
As she did at the first input session, City Manager Kim Foster described the city’s vision for the proposed recreation area, which she said “would be a pretty elaborate addition to the park”. It would include a splash pad, areas for families, children and individuals with special needs, along with pavilion, rest rooms, shade structures, and rain gardens. The area would cover approximately 40,000 square feet.
The city will be applying for the latest round of Local Parks and Recreation Fund grant, Foster said. “We’ll be submitting it around the middle of this month and would hear back from the state sometime around July.”
The city of Paris has received thousands of dollars in LPRF grants for numerous projects.
Paris Parks and Recreation Director Tony Lawrence said the state “always looks for ambitious projects like this. They’re always looking for projects which bring something new to communities, like this would.”
Foster said the city “has put a lot of time and work into this and we’re very excited about it.”
In addition to improving the quality of life and community health, such a project also would promote the economy and tourism, she said.
