Union City, Tenn.—Contests are gearing up for a few county offices in Obion County in the August general election as today’s filing deadline passed in Obion County.
Incumbent County Mayor Benny McGuire will be challenged by two opponents, while five candidates have thrown their hats in the ring for Obion County Sheriff and three are running for County Register of Deeds.
Long-time County Mayor McGuire is running as an Independent and will be challenged by Kevin Bowden, who is a deputy with the Obion County Sheriff’s Office, and John Glessner, who is Mayor of Samburg. Both are running as Independents.
With Sheriff Jerry Vastbinder not running, there will be five candidates for that job: Chief Deputy Kent Treece, John Davis, Darrell Davis, Kenny Craig and Karl Jackson. Treece and both John and Darrell Davis are running as Independents, while Craig is running as Democrat and Karl Jackson as Republican.
With Register of Deeds Vicky Long retiring, three are running for that position: Shelly Treece Long, Delilah Eaves and Cheryl Redden. Long and Eaves are running as Independents and Redden as Republican.
77th District State Rep. Bill Sanderson, a Republican, will be opposed by Democratic challenger Murray Hudson. 76th District State Rep. Andy Holt, a Republican, will be opposed by Democrat Deane Arganbright and Republican Scott Fortner.

Obion Co. Commissioner District 1: Donnie Braswell, Andy Crockett, Ralph Puckett and John McMahan.
District 2: Kenneth Barnes, Allen Nohsey, Dean Jowers, Freddie Preutt, and Ryan Ellegood.
District 3: Ken Cheatham, Ricky Boyd, Danny Jowers, Rob Holman.
District 4: Richard Arnold, H. Dwayne Hensley and James Gray.
District 5: James Beasley, Al Hamilton, Jerry Lamastus.
District 6: Terry Roberts, Donnie Walton, Brad Maunder, Eugene Hudgins, Stan Mitchell.
District 7: Jim Bondurant, Sam Sinclair, Steve Goodrich, Mike Daniel.
Incumbents Circuit Court Clerk Harry Johnson and Trustee Tracey Westbrooks will run unopposed.
