Suspect In Killing Of Kentucky Officer Shot, Killed In Clarksville

Clarksville, Tenn.—The man who is accused of killing a Hopkinsville Police Officer was shot and killed overnight in Clarksville. The shooting occurred near the Cracker Barrel on Wilma Rudolph Blvd. and that section of the highway is shut down and will remain so through the morning.

After the shooting of Police Officer Phillip Meacham in Hopkinsville last night, a massive manhunt began for James DeCoursey, age 35.

The stolen pickup truck DeCoursey took after the shooting was spotted at the Cracker Barrel and Clarksville Police were notified a man who matched DeCoursey’s description was there. A confrontation reportedly occurred and DeCoursey was killed in the highway by officers.

Meacham was 38 and a 14-year veteran of law enforcement with both the Hopkinsville Police and Christian Co. Sheriff’s Office. He was from Christian Co. and leaves a wife and two school-aged children.

A press conference by TBI spokesman Josh DeVine was held early this morning in Clarksville with preliminary information provided to the media.
