Murray Perkins Named State Star Farmer

Paris, Tenn.–Murray Perkins has another in a long list of accolades to add to his resume and this one is the biggest yet. Perkins, of the Paris Future Farmers of America, was named Tennessee’s 2018 State Star Farmer at the State FFA’s 90th convention in Gatlinburg this week.

Perkins is the son of John and Paula Perkins of Paris and has been involved in the Henry County Fair since he was a tyke and involved with the Paris FFA since he’s been in school.

Paris FFA Advisor Laura Moss said the State Star Award is the most prestigious award that can be bestowed. With it, Perkins will be on an agriculture tour of Tennessee in June and receive a prize package worth some $6,000.

According to the Tennessee FFA, the Star Farmer is the highest recognition in the state for an aspiring young farmer. Star recognition is awarded to top students in five areas that best demonstrate superior Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) projects.

Perkins had been named West Tennessee Star in January.

Also at the convention, new state officers were elected and Allie Jo Shankle of the Paris FFA gave her farewell address as West Tennessee State Vice President.
