Hopkinsville, Ky.–A Hopkinsville Police Officer who was shot Thursday afternoon has died and the suspect is being sought.
According to Hopkinsville radio station WHOP, the incident happened a few minutes after 5 p.m. and Kentucky State Police is investigating, with the help of multiple area law enforcement agencies.
Police are looking for a suspect identified as 35-year old James DeCoursey, described as a white male six-feet-one inch tall, possibly driving a stolen white 1997 Chevy Z71 extended cab pickup with a Harley Davidson sticker on the back window. He is considered armed and dangerous.
Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin confirmed in a tweet that the officer died from his injuries after being transported to the local hospital
Hopkinsville Mayor Carter Hendricks told WHOP the officer was off-duty when he was shot and said his prayers are with HPD and with the fallen officer’s family.
