Dover, Tenn.—The Fort Donelson National Battlefield is all abuzz with another brood of eaglets born this week to the resident Bald Eagles Jack and Lizzy.
Jack and Lizzy have been living at Fort Donelson since 2004 and have raised several eaglets since that time.
The two new eaglets have been named Ed and Old Abe, with the Fort Donelson Eagles’ photography group having the honors of naming them. Ed is named for a 92 year old WWII veteran and Old Abe is named for the eagle which was the mascot for the 8th Wisconsin regiment during the Civil War.
The new births have drawn photographers from all over the area who have stationed their cameras near the cannons on the Fort Donelson grounds.
The photography group has a Facebook page on which they share photos of the Bald Eagles and share information about their well-being. Nashville Photographer Ken Gray was lucky enough to get a photo of both little eaglet’s heads peeping out of the nest and we’ve shared the photo on our website and both Facebook pages.
