Paris, Tenn.—Twenty of the new “Crosser Stop Locks” have been manufactured and 10 will be installed soon, Paris Elementary School Principal Chip Gray told the Paris Special Schools District (PSSD) board Monday night.
A provisional patent has already been approved for the Crosser Stop Lock, a new locking system developed by PES School Resource Officer Eddie Crosser. Sgt. Crosser is a deputy with the Henry Co. Sheriff’s Office.
Gray said the 10 locks will be tested with everyday use before the rest are installed on the doors at the school. Crosser and Gray have applied for a full patent for the lock.
A representative of the Department of Homeland Security came to PES last week to view the new lock system and Gray said, “He was thoroughly impressed with everything he saw.”
The agent had never seen the type of security measures that are employed at PES (and other PSSD schools), including the surveillance camera links from the school to dispatch to the phones of the sheriff and SROs.
“Adding the new security locks just blew him away,” Gray said. “He said PES could easily be a model school for the state of Tennessee.”
Gray said the agent also said he wished every school in the state utilized the local security measures and also said he wished his kids were in a school like PES.
