Martin SRO Jason Arant Attends Active Shooter Training

Martin, Tenn.–Westview High School School Resource Officer (SRO) Jason Arant recently attended special training in preparation for the potential of an active shooter.

The RAIDER Training program exposes first-on-scene responders to the tactical skills necessary to operate successfully in the unique tensions of an active shooter setting – a hostile environment, populated by large numbers of civilians, with an Active Killer attempting to achieve the highest body count possible in the shortest amount of time. This is not a normal event, nor is the response, according to Martin Police Chief Don Teal.

SRO Arant has also attended ALICE training, which stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, & Inform. Training instructor-led classes provide preparation and a plan for individuals and organizations on how to more proactively handle the threat of an aggressive intruder or active shooter event.

Teal said, “Whether it is an attack by an individual person or by an international group of professionals intent on conveying a political message through violence, ALICE Training option based tactics have become the accepted response, versus the traditional “lockdown only” approach.”

SRO Arant attended the RAIDER training in Carterville, Illinois March 12th-16th. He has been with Martin P.D. for 21 years.
