Waverly, Tenn.—After an extensive 12-day search, the body of missing Nashville Firefighter Jesse Reed was found today in the Tennessee River in Humphreys Co.
Reed, who was 32, drove into a cove near Waverly March 6. His vehicle was recovered the next day. His wife reportedly was with him in the vehicle and was found on shore.
The Nashville Fire Department posted an announcement this afternoon that his body had been recovered. According to the post, Reed was an advanced EMT and had Hazmat, Rope Rescue and Vehicle Extraction qualifications. He joined the department in 2013.
Fire Chief William Swann issued the following statement:
“My heart is heavy and I grieve for the loss of our brother Firefighter Jesse Reed. I want to commend and thank the Humphreys County Sheriff’s Office and all the volunteers from near and far who came to search for Jesse. Every day Jesse came on shift he put his life on the line to serve the people of Nashville and to make sure that his fellow firefighters were safe. Our prayers go to Firefighter Reed’s wife and his entire family.”
