Suspect Eludes Deputies, Bloodhound, Drone; Reward Offered

By Shannon McFarlin WENK/WTPR News Director
Paris, Tenn.—For Henry County deputies, it’s the second chase through swampy areas this week and unfortunately, today’s chase left them empty-handed.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the apprehension of the suspect who led deputies from Henry and Benton Counties, as well as Big Sandy police, and a local K9 Bloodhound on a chase for some four hours today.

At one point, Deputy Lt. Clyde Sulcer discharged his weapon five times at the suspect as the suspect tried to run him over.

Benton County deputies were in pursuit of the suspect who was driving a possibly stolen 4-wheeler on Hwy. 69 into Henry County when they made contact with Henry County deputies, who made contact with the suspect on Hagler Ridge.

The suspect evaded law enforcement, driving through fields and a tree line in the Copper Springs Rd. area. Lt. Sulcer was able to track the four-wheeler into a densly wooded area and made contact with him.

At that point, the suspect accelerated toward Sulcer and the deputy fired five rounds at the suspect’s tires in an attempt to stop him.

The suspect then ran the four-wheeler into water and was completely submerged. Lt. Sulcer then went into the water in an attempt to apprehend the suspect, who swam across the water and ran into a swampy area.

Deputy James Sanders deployed the sheriff’s office drone and Deputy Wayne Fuqua and his Bloodhound Adora, Deputy Dalton Watson and Sheriff Monte Belew joined the search.

Big Sandy Police and Benton Co. Sheriff’s deputies set up a perimeter in the swamp area and the suspect was spotted by deputies. The suspect, however, continued fleeing into the Big Sandy WMA.

The suspect is a white male, blond hair, medium thin frame, 5’8” to 5’10” tall, clean-shaven.

Anyone with information can call the sheriff’s office at 642 1672 or the confidential hotline at 642 0929.

Lt. Scott Wyerick is processing the scene and recovering the four-wheeler.
