Weakley County, Tenn.—A McKenzie man is dead after he was shot breaking into an apartment near the Carroll-Weakley County line late last night. The incident occurred on State Hwy. 124, just outside of McKenzie.

Weakley Co. Sheriff’s Captain Randall McGowan said Terry Lee Haynes of McKenzie was shot after he broke into an apartment by kicking in a sliding glass door and confronting the resident in the bedroom of the apartment.

Haynes died at the scene.

McGowan said the sheriff’s office was called to the scene around 11:15 p.m. by dispatch, which had received several 911 calls about shots fired.

The resident, Reggie Milam, age 37, and a woman in the apartment, April Garner, age 37, were both questioned by sheriff’s investigators, McGowan said.

The body was sent for autopsy and the District Attorney contacted. The case will be presented to the May term of the Weakley Co. Grand Jury, he said.
