Stewart Co. Commission Favors Delaying Paris Landing Inn Demolition

Dover, Tenn.—The Stewart County Commission has come out solidly in favour of delaying the planned demolition of the Paris Landing Inn to replace it with a smaller facility.

The County Commission has joined the Dover Board of Mayor and Aldermen, which passed a similar resolution in mid-February. The state of Tennessee late last year announced plans to demolish the Paris Landing Inn, which has 130 rooms, and replace it with a 60-room facility.

At the outset of the discussion County Mayor Rick Joiner read a letter from State Rep. Tim Wirgau, R-Paris, who voiced concern about the commission opposing the plan. Wirgau has voiced concerns that too much opposition to the plan may cause the state to not replace the facility.

The effort to delay the project is being spearheaded by David Ross, who has urged both Dover and Stewart Co. officials to seek the delay until the next governor can review the plans.

Ross and Stewart Co. officials are worried about the economic impact that the plan will have locally while the Inn is being demolished and rebuilt.

In a letter to Stewart Co. officials, Wirgau said he is working on options, such as temporary restaurant and cabins, possibly locating a restaurant in the Don Ridgeway Convention Center which is located in the state park.
