Vickie Miller Receives Governor’s Volunteer Star Award

Nashville, Tenn.—Vickie Miller, a long-time volunteer at the Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge, received a Governor’s Volunteer Star Award at a ceremony in Nashville over the weekend.

Miller has logged in hundreds of hours in volunteering at the refuge and was selected to receive Henry County’s award at the ceremony.

Miller said she was “truly humbled by this recognition and thank those who submitted my information to be in the running.” Miller said she was heartened seeing the other volunteers from all over the state receiving their awards. “What struck me most were the young people, the youngest being nine years old, that have already begun volunteering. A true testament to the promising future that they have.”

Miller said, “As honored as I am, I truly feel inadequate and don’t wish to take all the credit for the wonderful work being done at our refuge by equally dedicated, hard-working people. I only hope their tireless work is recognized in the same manner in the coming years.”

Emcee for the event was Jennifer Kraus of Channel 5 in Nashville and the awards were presented by Miss Tennessee Caty Davis.
