KY Highway Crews Prepared for 1 to 3 inches of Snow Overnight

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning/Winter Weather Advisory for Western Kentucky and much of the surrounding region.
Snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches is expected with some locally heavier amounts possible tonight. Winter precipitation is expected to start in some of our Ohio River border counties as early
as 6:00 p.m., CDT, then spread across the region, and continue through the overnight hours.

This storm is expected to create hazardous driving conditions. The NWS has indicated poor visibility is possible within some of the heavier snow squalls in this system.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has crews on alert and prepared to report for snow and ice-fighting duty on short notice. Supervisors will be monitoring local conditions and calling in
additional personnel as the storm develops.
Temperatures are expected to stay near or above freezing so the bulk of the snow should stick to mostly grassy surfaces. However, there could be some slush build-up on roadways during the
event itself where snowfall rates are heaviest. There is also a potential for early slick spots to develop on bridges, overpasses, and hilltops where the driving surface may cool more quickly due to wind and dropping temperatures.
Due to slushy nature of road surface accumulations, plowing should be effective.
KY Transportation crews will be doing their part to improve driving conditions as the storm moves through.
Motorists are asked to do their part by slowing down and being prepared to adapt to changing driving conditions through the night. Motorists should also monitor area news media for the latest
on weather and road conditions.
