Erin, Tenn.—At Friday’s Kick-Off Breakfast for the 56th Annual Irish Day Celebration in Erin, Byron Cleghern was named 2018 Lord High Mayor, which marks the second time in the history of the event that a father and his two sons have been named Lord High Mayor.
The Cleghorn family owned and operated the local Piggly Wiggly store for many years. Byron’s brother Tim was the 2017 Lord High Mayor and their father, Billy Ray, had the honor in 1975.
As Lord High Mayor, Cleghorn will oversee this year’s festivities.
The other father and sons team to be named Lord High Mayor were C.W. Mitchum Sr., Dr. Albert Mitchum and Webb Mitchum.
At Friday’s Kick Off, Emerald Award Winners were named: Ty Mitchell, Steve Fredericks, Laurie Mobley, Sam Fussell and Janet Felts.
The town of Erin turns green this week with a wealth of activities including a carnival that begins on Tuesday and culminates in day-long activities on Saturday, March 17, St. Patrick’s Day. Highlights are the Leprechaun parade at 10:45 a.m., followed by the Grand Parade at 11 a.m.
