Buchanan, Tenn.—Bethel University’s fishing team finished the day in the No. 1 spot and two of its anglers scored the biggest fish of the day Saturday at the Collegiate Big Bass Bash taking place this weekend at Paris Landing State Park.

Bethel Anglers Brian Pahl hauled in the biggest fish of the day, at 9.22 pounds, and his teammate Ricky Harris posted second with a 7.42 pound fish. Paul is from St. Louis and Harris is from Mt. Vernon, Ky.

What that means is that Bethel goes into Sunday, the final day of the tournament, ahead of the other teams.

During the afternoon weigh-in Saturday, officials from Cabela’s announced there were 479 anglers in the tournament. Those anglers come from colleges all over the country.

Bethel’s team, which is coached by Garry Mason and Kenny Loudon, is recognized as one of the best teams in the United States. Bethel won last year’s Big Bass Bash.
