Union City, Tenn.—A Union City couple appeared before the Obion County Schools board of education Monday night to ask for increased safety measures at the schools.
Clyde and Gloria Bunch said they are worried about the safety of schools, especially in light of the school threats that have caused Obion County and Union City Schools to go on lockdown recently and the school shooting at Marshall Co. High School.
Gloria Bunch suggested ideas including barricades for classroom doors, metal detectors, active shooter training, no backpacks, more school resource officers and ballistic film on windows. She has started a Paypal account to raise money for the safety measures.
Obion County Director of Schools Russ Davis said there are many changes that could be made, if the money was there to finance it. He said the district already has two school resource officers. He said the district already has active shooter drills.
