Buchanan, Tenn.- -Kentucky Lake, one of the best-known bass fisheries in the nation, is set to play host to one of collegiate bass fishing’s premier events this weekend.
Bethel University’s team, coached by Garry Mason of Springville, is coming in to the tournament as No. 1 in the series. The Bethel team also won last year’s Big Bass Bash.
Other area college teams set to compete are Murray State and the University of Tennessee at Martin.
The tournament will be televised on several national outdoors networks.
Mason told WENK/WTPR Tuesday morning that the Bethel team is currently competing at the FLW Yeti tournament at Kentucky Dam. He said the anglers will be arriving later this week at Paris Landing to begin practicing for the Big Bass Bash.
Anglers from across the country will be traveling to Paris to compete in the second stop of the Cabela’s Collegiate Bass Fishing Series – the Cabela’s Collegiate Big Bass Bash presented by Berkley. Taking place March 9th – 11th, the tournament is a big bass format event with anglers fishing for two days and a total of four weigh-in periods daily (every 2 hours). The expected field of over 500 collegiate anglers will be fishing for the chance to win the 80 plus prizes up for grabs.
This year’s event will feature a stacked field consisting of 15 of the top 20 ranked schools in the Cabela’s School of the Year presented by Abu Garcia standings. Not only is there a chance for this to be the largest number of competitors to participate in an ACA event, it is guaranteed to be full of talented anglers.
“This is a great format that will reward collegiate anglers with sponsor prizes this weekend as well as play a pivotal role in determining the 2018 Cabela’s School of the Year,” said Wade Middleton, Director of the ACA and President of CarecoTV. “Once again, we are excited to be back at Kentucky Lake and Paris, TN. This year’s field will feature some of the top schools in the nation and will be nationally televised on several networks.”
