Buchanan, Tenn.—With the TVA decreasing the discharge rate at Kentucky Dam over the weekend, Kentucky and Barkley Lakes will begin to rise this week. The lakes are predicted to go beyond summer pool of 359’ beginning today.

According to the long-range lake level forecast, levels by mid-day Thursday will be 363.5’, going up to 364.7 by midday Friday and up to 367.4 by midnight Saturday.

Levels will be up to 366.7’ by midday Sunday.

Lake observers caution that property owners along the lakes should keep a sharp eye out for the rising waters.

Mud slides in the Kuttawa area of Lake Barkley already have closed a few roads and portions of roads.

WENK/WTPR reported yesterday that the same situation is being predicted for the Cumberland River in Stewart and other nearby counties. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is cautioning that sharp rises on the Cumberland will be expected over the next seven to 10 days.
