Murray, Ky.—Preliminary indications are that a EF-1 tornado struck Murray during Saturday’s storms, causing major damage to homes and businesses but thankfully no injuries.
Rick Shanklin of the National Weather Service in Paducah was in Murray Sunday morning and said preliminary indications are that the EF-1 tornado struck, carrying winds between 105 and 110 mph.
The Kentucky Department of Emergency Management also reported that some 45 homes and four businesses were damaged.
One of the hardest hits was received by the Bel Air and Southside shopping centers on S. 12th St., ripping the new roof addition off the Southside shopping center. Murray City Councilman Wesley Bolin said the roof was picked up by the storm and landed in pieces several hundred feet away all over the Earl Court area.
Also hit hard were the neighborhoods along Broad Street, Nash Street, South 11th and South 9th Streets.
Bolin thanked the first responders who worked through the night and into Sunday.
