Paris, Tennessee– The economic development session of the Henry County Youth Leadership Development (HCYLD) program took place on Wednesday, February 21st at Nobel Automotive.
The day centered around activities to build the students’ awareness of the Henry County business and industry landscape and exercises aimed at developing skills for future leadership. The day started with a tour of the Nobel facility lead by Brian Bishop, engineering manager. A group of Nobel employees then joined the youth leadership group in a team building activity followed by viewing a TED talk on how to positively shape your future through changes in your body language.
The students then had the opportunity for job shadowing in their chosen area of interest. Luncheon speakers were April Perry of Perry’s BBQ, Travis McLeese, executive director of the Paris Henry County Chamber of Commerce, Jennifer Morris from the City of Paris, and Chris Cobb, Nobel Automotive plant manager. Speakers shared their personal history, how they became business owners or leaders in our community, and advice for the students on how to become a good leader.
To cap off the day, Jennifer Starks, Nobel Automotive HR manager, gave students an overview of the key characteristics of each generational group making up today’s workforce. She then gave them advice on building their resumes for job opportunities and college applications, the proper use of social media, job interviewing tips, and the importance of making a good first impression.
Members of the Youth Leadership group include Charles Backer, Seth Bucy, Cassalyn Callahan, Ansley Cate, Savannah Hunt, Logan Lacy, Nick Metzinger, Sabrina Odom, Kelsey Peoples, Abigail St. Clair, William Wang, Laura Whitby, and Mae Whitby. Amanda Armstrong is their sponsor from the Henry County School System.
