Eddyville, Ky.—Two correctional officers were treated and released at a local hospital after an assault at the Kentucky State Penitentiary this morning.
The Kentucky State Police received a call of an assault at the Kentucky State Penitentiary at 07:44 a.m. Preliminary investigation shows a correctional officer was assaulted by an inmate while being removed from a room. Other inmates joined in the assault but were quickly restrained by other correctional officers. The penitentiary went on total lockdown per their policy. Two correctional officers were treated and released at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The investigation is continuing by Trooper Derek Scott. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Kentucky State Police Post 1 at 270-856-3721 or anonymously at 1-800-222-5555. Citizens may also report tips anonymously through the KSP app.
Once the KSP completes the investigation, the case will be presented to the Lyon County Grand Jury as the suspects are currently incarcerated. The names of the officers injured are withheld at the request of the Department of Corrections so they can have privacy while they recover and for family members to be notified.
