By Shannon McFarlin WENK/WTPR News Director

Martin, Tenn.—A Westview High School student was removed from school this afternoon after he made a false bomb threat. He also has been petitioned into juvenile court.

Martin Police Chief Don Teal said School Resource Officer Jason Arant was notified that a student was overheard saying “I placed a bomb in the building” around 11:38 a.m. this morning.

Teal said the juvenile was immediately located and escorted to the office where he freely admitted that he had made the statement. The student said he had made the statement to make a friend smile because the friend was having a bad day.

The school was searched visually and by the department’s K-9.

Teal told WENK/WTPR Tuesday afternoon, “Every one of these threats has to be taken seriously” and that the student was petitioned into juvenile court on a charge of making a false threat. He also said the student was removed from school.

The juvenile is in the custody of his parents.
