Dover, Tenn.—An effort by Stewart County officials to delay demolition of the Paris Landing Inn until the next governor is in place has some concerns that such a delay might result in losing the hotel permanently. Officials with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) earlier announced plans to demolish the inn and replace it with a smaller facility.
The Dover Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved a resolution last week calling for the delay and the Stewart Co. Commission is expected to approve a similar resolution at an upcoming meeting.
State Sen. Mark Green told the Stewart Houston Times that he is worried about that proposal. “I fear that if they try to hold it off a year, then we are in a situation where nothing is done at all,” he said. Green represents Stewart, Houston and Montgomery Counties.
State Rep. Tim Wirgau of Paris told The Times newspaper that he agrees. “I think that would do more damage to us than it would do us good,” he said. “The last thing I want to do is get caught in the shuffle of where we’ve got a demolition we are moving forward with, and we don’t get a rebuild back.” Wirgau represents Henry and Stewart Counties.
Current plans are to begin the demolition/rebuild of the Paris Landing Inn later this summer.
