Officials: No Threat To Schools

Dover, Tenn.—Stewart County Director of Schools Leta Joiner has again addressed continuing rumors of threats at the high school and assured the public there is no threat to the safety of students, teachers and staff.

As WENK/WTPR reported on Friday, Stewart County Sheriff’s deputies assisted school officials in performing scheduled lockdown drills at multiple schools in the county. That triggered rumors which quickly escalated on social media.

Joiner has posted a message to the Stewart County Schools Facebook page which reads: “I want to assure everyone there is not a threat to the safety of the students, teachers, and staff. No weapons, guns or ammunition have been found. No hit list has been uncovered. Nothing is being covered up by school officials.

Joiner goes on, “Any findings of a threat, gun, weapon, or ammunition will be shared completely with the public. Law enforcement along with school administration have thoroughly investigated each allegation and there is no credible threat. If you have any questions, concerns or information please contact Leta Joiner at the Stewart County Board of Education at 232-5176. Thank you.”
