Paris, Tenn.—Drew Williams of Paris was welcomed as the newest member of the Henry County Commission tonight after his unanimous appointment to fill the unexpired term of the late Bobby Freeman in District 2.
Williams is sales manager for US Foods and is active in community activities, including the No Fly Zone and the World’s Biggest Fish Fry. Originally from Tennessee Ridge, he is a Houston Co. High School graduate and attended the University of Tennessee at Martin.
Williams was appointed to serve out the remainder of Freeman’s four-year term until the general election. And, Williams has picked up his petition to run for the office at the general election.
Williams was sworn in by County Clerk Donna Craig and immediately took his seat at the commission table.
Williams’ name was placed into nomination by County Mayor Brent Greer and was the only person who showed interest in being a candidate for the position.
“Mr. Williams, we certainly welcome you to the commission,” Greer said.
Greer also welcomed back Commissioner Randy Gean, who has been ill. Gean attended the meeting with his wife, Rita, and thanked everyone for their cards, prayers and phone calls during his illness.
In other business:
–The commission authorized the sale of two delinquent tax properties at reduced prices. Permission was granted to offer a quitclaim deed for a parcel on Railroad Ave. in Henry to Mae Faye Henry for $1,300. Permission was also granted for a parcel to Vincent and Margie Nolen for $1,000.
–With the resignation of Dr. Charles Walker as Medical Examiner, Dr. Terry Harrison and Dr. Paul Evans were appointed as Assistant Medical Examiners for one-year terms.
–The pledge of allegiance was led by Kenson Kyle and Levi Hamilton of Boy Scout Troop 28.
