10th Annual Save A Heart Day Is Thursday

Paris, Tenn.—The 10th annual Save a Heart Day will be held all day Thursday at E.W. Grove School in Paris. Special sessions will begin at 8 am and continue until 3 pm. The day consists of students rotating through the following heart-healthy stations:

  • CPR Certification: (Led by approximately 20 volunteer certified CPR instructors) Students will be trained, and upon successful completion, will be certified in CPR.  Students will receive their CPR certification cards before the end of the school year. This is an amazing opportunity for our students to obtain CPR certification, especially considering the high rate of heart disease in Henry County.

  • Social Media: (Led by University of Tennessee at Martin students) During this session, college students will share precautionary advice regarding social media use.

  • Heart-Related Emergencies & Distracted Driving: (Led by Air Evac) Students will learn about heart attack symptoms and how the 911 system and supporting systems work in the event of an emergency. Discussion also will include the dangerous effects of distracted driving, such as cell phone use, texting, music, etc. Weather permitting, students will have the opportunity to view an Air Evac helicopter up close, along with a HCMC ambulance.

  • Teen Pregnancy, STD’s, and Abstinence: (Led by nationally known speaker Lucas Hurd) Lucas Hurd will talk to our students about real issues in a fun, appropriate way.  Henry County currently has one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in the state.  During this session, students will learn about the positive outcomes of living a life of abstinence and avoiding STD’s.

  • Exercise: (Led by karate Master Dinh) Students will practice exercises that can easily be done at home and help to maintain a heart-healthy body.

  • Choices with Drugs and Alcohol: (Led by Jackson-based speaker, Tony Black) Students will learn about drugs. Alcohol, and their negative effects. They also will gain ideas on how to handle peer pressure.
