Pre-Orders Taken For Summitt Specialty Plates

Knoxville, Tenn.—The Pat Summitt Foundation is continuing to take pre-orders for a new Tennessee specialty license plate honouring the legendary coach and time is running short for the plates to become a reality.

The state of Tennessee requires a minimum of 1,000 pre-orders to start the production process.

As of late last week, however, the state had received 795 pre-orders. According to Sunny Biden of the Pat Summitt Foundation, the minimum 1,000 must be pre-ordered by June 30 or they won’t be produced. Plans for the plates were revealed in the fall of 2016 and the pre-orders began in November of that year.

The plates cost $35 plus a processing fee. The foundation, which seeks to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s and help fund research for a cure, receives $15.38 for each one sold.

The design of the plate pictured will be approved by the state once the 1,000 plates are pre-ordered.

The Summitt Foundation said if the goal of 1,000 pre-orders is not met by June 30, you will receive a refund of the $35, but not the $2.10 credit card processing fee.

The Tennessee Department of Revenue estimates that after it receives the pre-orders, it will take 4-6 months for plates to arrive at local county clerk offices. The Pat Summitt Foundation will e-mail you to let you know when we have received 1,000 pre-orders, and you will receive a promotional code for $20 voucher to spend on anything you want in The Pat Summitt Foundation Shop. We will also keep this site updated with our progress, so please feel free to visit it regularly
