Paris, Tenn.—A man who had been living and working in Henry County for some time was extradited to Texas after it was found he had been AWOL from the U.S. Army, reportedly for some 20 years.
Steven McKinney, age 46, of 320 Melissa Drive, Puryear, has been held in the Henry County Jail since Friday, December 9, and was released to the custody of the U.S. Army yesterday.
Henry County Sheriff Monte Belew said McKinney was stopped on a seat belt violation by the Tennessee Highway Patrol and a check with NCIC determined he was wanted in Texas.
Belew said McKinney was held in the Henry County Jail while extradition proceedings were underway. He said U.S. Army officials from Fort Hood, arrived yesterday and transported McKinney back to Texas.
