Organized Crime Arrests Made In Murray

Murray, Ky.—Murray Police arrested three men from Chicago, charging them with organized crime after they were found attempting to purchase large amounts of cigarettes and found with multiple fraudulent credit cards.

According to Sgt. Brant Shutt, on Tuesday, February 6th, Murray Police received information that an individual had attempted to purchase a large amount of cigarettes in excess of several hundred dollars at a local gas station and the transaction was declined. A short time later information was received from another local gas station regarding the same activity. Officers had been made aware of similar activities that led to multiple arrests in Hopkinsville. At this time the Murray Police Department began making calls to local businesses to warn them of the suspected fraudulent transactions.

Officers then received reports from another local store where an individual came in to buy a large amount of cigarettes, but the manager declined the sale. A description of the subject in each of the attempted transactions was obtained along with a vehicle description.

At approximately 6:30 pm officers located a vehicle matching the description that was provided and conducted a traffic stop on South 12th Street. The vehicle was occupied by Gerron Jones, age 22; Nakeia Hamilton, age 20; and Julius Carmichael, age 30, all from Chicago Illinois. During the traffic stop officers located multiple credit cards that were hidden and believed to be fraudulent. All three subjects were then taken into custody and lodged in the Calloway County Jail on the following charges which are all class D felonies:

Gerron Jones, criminal possession of a forged instrument, tampering with physical evidence, receiving stolen property.
Nakeia Hamilton, receiving stolen property.
Julius Carmichael, criminal possession of a forged instrument, receiving stolen property.

Information obtained in the arrests matched information that was obtained in the Hopkinsville arrests. Based on that link, a warrant was signed and issued for the three charging them with engaging in organized crime.
