Paris, Tenn.—The Paris Special Schools District will close Thursday and Friday, due to flu. Meanwhile, schools in the Henry County Schools district will remain open.
PSSD Director Dr. Norma Gerrell said in a statement, “I’ve been very conflicted over calling off school due to flu/sickness. We have risen from 11%-12% just today of students out or had to leave with flu symptoms. Our teacher numbers are rising due to their own children being sick or they are sick. I am going to cancel school Thursday & Friday.”
Gerrell asked that families “please use this time to stay at home and away from the germs & sickness going around. I am hopeful that we can wipe this out with some time away from spreading germs. This flu is nothing to play with. If you are ill, please get to the doctor. My greatest concern is the safety of our students and staff.”
Henry County Schools Superintendent Dr. Brian Norton issued a statement this afternoon, saying, “Henry County Schools monitors attendance rate every day. We have an overall attendance rate of 94% throughout the week. With the exception of Harrelson School, all schools have experienced normal attendance rates for students and faculty/staff. It is important to remain open to serve the 94% of students, many of who will experience their best meal and their warmest environment.”
Also in our area, Stewart County Schools and Bruceton-Hollow Rock have announced they will be closing school the rest of the week due to flu.
