Paris, Tenn.–Three local entertainers are in the spotlight for the Historic Atkins-Porter Neighborhood Association’s Valentine Dinner and Live Auction Fundraiser. Humorist Bob Valentine, musician Kevin Moore and auctioneer Junior Staggs create an enjoyable lineup for the Wednesday, February 14 event in the Old Paris 5 & 10 – An Event Center in Historic Downtown Paris.
Valentine, of Puryear, is a legendary humorist in Northwest Tennessee and Southeastern Kentucky. He has delighted thousands of audiences throughout his career portraying numerous characters. Valentine has taken the persona of Mark Twain at hundreds of events, a tale-telling Scotsman at Highland games, and a spinner of yarns at the Homeplace 1850s in Land Between the Lakes. He is a senior lecturer in advertising at Murray State University, but on this Valentine’s night, with a twinkle in his eye, he will turn his attention to the humorous aspects of love.
Cocktail and dinner music will be provided by one of the region’s most talented musicians, Kevin Moore of McKenzie. A faculty member of the Bethel University Renaissance Program, Moore is a consummate violinist, fiddler, guitarist, mandolinist and bassist who has performed with artists including Barbara Mandrell and Lee Greenwood. He currently tours with the Grammy-winning Gaither Vocal Band. His musical styles run the gamut from jazz to classical to bluegrass and more.
Finally, Junior Staggs, of Puryear, will be auctioning off several special items during the event. While auctioneers are rarely listed as entertainment, Junior Staggs is different. The winner of six national and state championships, Staggs is described as a storyteller and a writer. It’s difficult not to be entertained by Staggs, who will be auctioning off a variety of unique items that include an Up-Up in the Air Plane Ride, Six-Months of Kelli’s Fancy Breads, a Festive Pontoon Boat Trip & Historic Tour on the Tennessee River, a hand pieced, locally made quilt and more.
“This is going to be a rare treat,” said committee member, River Byrd. “It’s a special evening filled with exquisite food and beverages and great entertainment. Dinner tickets and the auction will support the exciting Atkins-Porter Community Park on Jackson Street in one of our town’s most historic neighborhoods.”
Tickets for the event are $75 per person. Tables of six are available for $420. Tables of eight are $560. For tickets, please contact Ed Roberts at 731-336-0279. Tickets for this gathering are limited.
