By Shannon McFarlin WENK/WTPR News Director

Henry, Tenn.—A home at 4925 Hwy. 79 S in Henry was destroyed by fire this afternoon and Henry Volunteer Firefighters were at the scene for several hours. The family lost everything, including their dog, in the fire. A neighbor suffered chest pains while helping firefighters.

The family who are victims of the fire had suffered a fire loss around Christmas and were just moving into the home. No one was at the home when the fire started.

Henry Fire Chief Keith Qualls said he lives four miles away and could smell and see the smoke from his house. “It was pretty well involved when we got there and the roof was already falling in,” Qualls said.

No one was injured in the fire, but a neighbor who was helping firefighters with the fire hoses suffered chest pains and the Henry County EMS was called to the scene. “He was helping the guys pull hoses and I guess the stress of the whole situation caused him to have chest pains,” Qualls said.

The home is a one-story frame house and Qualls said the cause has yet to be determined.

The family lost everything in the fire. “If it was in the house, it was lost,” he said. The Red Cross was on site to assess the family’s needs.

Paris Firefighters responded to a mutual aid call at 1:52 p.m., bringing one truck and two men.

Henry Firefighters were on the scene from around 1:45 p.m. until 6 p.m.
