Paris Actress Cherry Jones has been cast in a pivotal role in the acclaimed drama “The Handmaid’s Tale”, the award-winning Hulu series based on Margaret Atwood’s novel about a future where women are forced into servitude.
Jones has been cast in the role as the activist mother of Elisabeth Moss’ character, Offred.
Moss told The Hollywood Reporter that Jones was her choice for the part. “Cherry was my fantasy choice,” she said. “We sent her the script, she wrote a lovely email back and she said yes almost immediately.”
Jones will guest-star as Holly, Offred’s feminist mother, and will appear in episode three. With the current season two still in production, it’s unclear whether Jones will appear in more than one episode.
Jones has won two Best Actress Tony Awards, along with a Best Actress Emmy. She most recently appeared on ABC’s American Crime, Netflix’ Black Mirror and Amazon’s Transparent.
