UTM Students Again Work At Super Bowl

MARTIN, Tenn. – A senior from South Fulton is among dozen students from the University of Tennessee at Martin will work behind-the-scenes during Super Bowl LII, Feb. 4, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Each year, UT at Martin sends a group of students to work at the Super Bowl. This year’s group, led by Dr. Dexter Davis, associate professor of sport business at UT Martin, is the fifth and largest UT Martin cohort to receive first-hand, real-world experience at one of the largest sporting events in the world.

The senior from South Fulton is Brianna Rinker.

Previous years have seen a maximum of nine students participate in the experience, but additional students are attending this year at the request of the National Football League. “The NFL has asked us to bring (12 students) because they like what our students do and how they do it,” said Davis. “I think that shows the growth of this program.”

This is Davis’ 13th Super Bowl, where he works with On Location Experiences, the NFL’s official hospitality company, to coordinate player appearances during and after the game. UT Martin students will assist Davis by providing hospitality services to visiting players and escorting players between event venues. Students will also assist with post-game activities, including an on-field experience for VIP NFL guests.

Students participating in the trip are Austin Barber, a sophomore from Bradford; Leah Barnett, a junior from Parsons; Alyson Brown, a senior from Pinson; Leighton Chappell, a sophomore from Flushing, Michigan; Ashley Coots, a senior from Fairview; Tristan Cost, a sophomore from Nunnelly; Zane Cox, a junior from Fremont, Ohio; Colten Daugherty, a senior from Nunnelly; Houston Downey, a senior from Pegram; Kathryn Reece, a junior from Louisburg, Kansas; Brianna Rinker, a senior from South Fulton; and Sara Taylor, a senior from Jackson.
