Huntingdon, Tenn.—A Huntingdon woman has been arrested on charges of aggravated child abuse and neglect after she is alleged to have left her two-year-old child alone for as long as 24 hours in a vacant apartment.
Cassie L. Scales, age 22, of Drew Court, Huntingdon, is alleged to have left the two-year-old girl alone in a vacant apartment with no food or water on December 12. The bedroom door in which she was left was closed and the child could not leave the room.
Huntingdon Police said Scales was traveling to McMinnville with three other people and her three-month-old child when the incident occurred. Police said Scales did phone a neighbor to check on the child. However, the neighbor could not enter the room because of a dog in the apartment.
The neighbor called the police, who found the child on the floor with a soiled diaper. The child was transported to the local hospital and placed in foster care under emergency placement. Scales’ three-month-old child also was placed in foster care.
