14-Year-Old Arrested For Spreading Threats

By Shannon McFarlin WENK/WTPR News Director
Murray, Ky.—A 14-year-old Calloway County High School student was arrested for falsely reporting an incident after social media postings caused panic at the school.
The Calloway County Sheriff’s Office received numerous reports of a threat being made against the high school on Wednesday, January 24—one day after a 15-year-old student opened fire and killed two students and injured 19 others at neighboring Marshall County High School in Benton.
According to a press release issued by the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office, a joint investigation with the Calloway County School officials led to several interviews being conducted all that night.
The investigation determined there was “no credible threat”, according to the press release, “but it did show the spread of the alleged threat caused considerable public alarm.”
Meanwhile, the Calloway County Schools have issued a statement relating that, “Administrators have been working with local law enforcement for several hours and at this time we have no evidence of any credible threats directed at Calloway County Schools. If you have any information relating to specific threats, please contact the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office at 270 753 3151.”
School is in session today.
