Paris, Tenn.–The Henry County Office on Aging’s first trip of 2018 will be to the Alex Haley Museum and homeplace in Henning, Tennessee. This is a part of African American History Month the Office on Aging will be observing.
Alex Haley was best known for works depicting the struggles of African Americans. He was raised in Henning, Tennessee. The struggles that Haley portray developed into one of the successful books and television mini-series “Roots.
The date of the trip will be Friday, February 23. If the trip is cancelled due to weather, then it will reschedule the trip on a date in March. The trip will leave around 8 am from the Central Community Center 55 Jones Bend Rd Ext., and should arrive there around 11 a.m. The tour lasts about two hours. Once the tour is over, the group will eat and visit the area then head home. The cost of the trip will be $25 per person, which includes bus ride and admission to the museum. They do have a gift shop on site.
The last day to sign up for the trip will be Tuesday, February 20. The Office on Aging has changed some things about refunds for a trip. If you pay for the trip and you decide you just do not want to go, then you will not receive a refund. If you pay for the trip and something comes up in your immediately family, its will be at the discretion of HCOOA Staff to determine if you receive a refund. These trips take a lot of planning and scheduling and they want everyone to enjoy themselves.
